How To Commission A Painting

Step 1

First, decide what you’d like me to paint. This could be a landscape of a treasured place or perhaps a favourite flower that has a special meaning to you. I usually work from a client’s own photographs but can also help find a suitable reference if you don’t have one yourself.

Step 2

Fill out the Commission Enquiry Form at the bottom of this page with your ideas. I’ll contact you by email and we'll chat about your idea to make sure we’re both happy to go ahead. When everything has been agreed I'll send you a simple commission contract and a link to pay a 50% deposit to secure your booking.

Step 3

I’ll get painting! I often begin with some sketchbook studies or mockups to test colours and layouts which you’ll have the chance to review before I begin the final piece. I will also send an update with progress photographs around halfway through so you can see your painting taking shape. Commissions usually take between 2-6 weeks to complete depending on their size and complexity.

Step 4

I will send a photograph of the finished painting for your approval and you will pay the remaining 50% of the cost. When the final payment is received your painting will be signed and carefully packaged for delivery. If you would like your painting framed I will also provide options and prices for this. Then your beautiful new artwork will arrive ready for you to enjoy for many years to come.

"My smile is huge! You have captured the heart and soul of this special place and I cannot stop looking at it."

Commission FAQs

What kind of subjects will you paint?

Landscapes, florals, plants and wildlife are my specialties. I only accept commission projects that are aligned with my natural style so I’d recommend taking a look through the work on my site to be sure we are a good match.

I don't have a reference image, can you still create something for me?

In many cases yes. If you have a general idea of what you'd like painted I can often source references from my own collection and can provide a few options for you to choose from.

How long will it take to create my artwork?

This depends on the size and level of detail in the painting so I will give you a better idea of timescales once we have had our initial discussions. Paintings are usually completed between 2 - 6 weeks after agreeing all the details and signing the contract.

Can you complete my commission by a certain date?

I have a limited number of commission spaces so the earlier you get in touch the better your chance of securing a particular completion date. I will always do my best to accommodate if I have space in my schedule.

How and when do I pay?

A 50% deposit is required to begin a commission and you’ll be sent a payment link once we’ve agreed all the details. This deposit is non-refundable and secures your spot on my commission list. If for any reason you change your mind once we’ve started, I will retain the deposit but you are not obliged to pay the remaining balance. The final payment will be made once the painting is finished and you are happy, before I package it up for delivery.

Is there a delivery fee?

Prices include free delivery in the UK. For international customers a separate quote for shipping will be agreed as part of our initial discussions.

Can I have my artwork framed?

Yes, I offer a framing as an additional service. If you choose to add framing to your order your painting will arrive beautifully presented and ready to hang. I usually choose a natural oak frame for my paintings but if you would prefer a different style to suit your décor that can also be arranged.

Who owns the rights to the finished artwork?

The physical painting will belong to you when your final payment has been made. However, I retain the copyright to all of my paintings so you are not permitted to make any additional copies or reproductions of the piece. If you would like to purchase additional prints of your artwork I would be delighted to create these for you.
